A brief reflection ... is it necessary to be a former Portuguese colony to belong to the lusophone group?

When I was a child in Franca, São Paulo, Brazil, two events marked me with respect to the subject. The first was when I first heard a portuguese man speaking, Roberto Leal, and he was in the program of Chacrinha, if I remember correctly. I asked my parents, who were close by, what was wrong with his mouth ... that boy certainly had some physical problem, to talk like that all truncated ... they just explained that he was a Portuguese, that they spoke the same language that we did, only that way, and stuff.
